2018 DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS!
WILDER'S PREP GOLD
Early on in the 2018 Volleyball season those close to the Wilder's Prep Gold team knew they were a special group of girls, unusually dedicated to their craft and capable of great things. In the D-1 Championship Game they had a chance to prove just how right that was by closing out an undefeated season. New West however had similar ideas and the stage was set for a tense battle. Wilders got off to a strong start winning the first set, but New West continued to compete hard. The second set was a seesaw affair, with neither team able to gain complete control. Ultimately though the depth of Wilders shown through as they topped New West 28-26 to capture the game, and the championship.
The Division 1 Flag Football Championship was a battle of unbeatens as Culver City took on Visitation in a thrilling offensive shootout. In a sign of what was to come, Culver scored quickly to take a 6-0 lead, only to see Visitation respond with two touchdowns of their own to go up 14-6. The teams continued to trade scores for the rest of the half, reaching the intermission all tied at 20. The score was even again at 28-28 when Visitation made a key fourth down stop to regain possession, then reached the end zone once more to take the lead for good. In the end Visitation had their first FIYA Flag Football championship with the 42-28 victory.
2018 DIVISION 1A CHAMPIONS!
WILDER'S PREP PINK
The D-1A Girls Volleyball Championship was a showdown between Wilder's Prep Pink and ESLA, both hoping to cap impressive seasons with one final victory. The first set saw Wilders take control early and put themselves in great position up 1-0 in the best of three match, but ESLA responded by with a quick spurt of their own to take the lead in the second set. Wilders had one final push left though, making big plays to complete their season on a high note by taking the D-1A Championship.
KIPP SCHOLAR ACADEMY
In the D-1A Championship, league rivals Mark Twain and KIPP Scholar had a rematch of their regular season game. On Wednesday KIPP scored first, racing ahead 8-0 and then extending the lead to 14 at the half. Mark Twain did not reach this spot without being resilient though, and battled to the end as they had all year. In the end the comeback came up just short, and KIPP Scholar won the game and the title, 20-13.
