TRACK & FIELD REGISTRATION INFORMATION  - Please Read

In order to ensure that your school's track team is familiar with how FIYA conducts its track meets, please make sure that your track coaches carefully read the information on our track page and program packet. To understand our program, rules, and how to register, it is very important that track coaches read all our information. This serves as a checklist of sorts:

1.  Please read the dates above for our 2020 season and download/print our "2020 FIYA Track & Field Order of Track Events and General Rules" Program packet located under the links to the right of this page. This packet includes: How to Register, Order of Track Events and Field Events, General FIYA Track & Field Rules, Awards & Scoring, Meet Logistics, and Specific Field Event Rules - everything you need to know about how we run and operate our Track & Field program. Prior to registering for a FIYA track & field meet, PLEASE read through the whole document.

2.  Now that you have completed steps 1 and 2 above, you are ready to actually register for each FIYA track meet that your school team desires to participate.  Track registration for the 2019 season is being handled through Athletic.net.  Assuming your school does not already have an account with Athletic.Net, the FIYA track registration process becomes a two part process:  The first part is to create a free account and the second part (after you receive an email and confirm activation) is to actually register for each FIYA track meet your school desire to participate.

A.  CREATE A FREE ATHLETIC.NET ACCOUNT

  • Go to www.athletic.net
  • *NOTE: Creating a free account needs to be done AT LEAST ONE WEEK prior to date of track meet.
  • Click "Create Free Account"
  • Complete information and click "Next Step"
  • Click "Coach/Event Director"
  • Click "Find Team" and a Find-Your-Team pop up box should appear.  In the pop up box, do the following:  Select "Track and Field, select "Middle School" and select "California" and then type in your school name.  Assuming that your school has never created an account before, you should then be able to click "Add Your Team".
  • (This step is somewhat repetitive) - For Select Team Type - click Middle School; For School Info - complete all boxes and for State/Region, be sure to select "CA:  Los Angeles"; For Select League, Division - nothing needs to be put here; For Contact Info - enter information along with password and phone and then Click Submit Request.
  • After submitting information to create a free account, you will receive a confirmation email in 1-2 days.
  • Now your account is verified and ready to register for any specific FIYA track & field meets. See Next Step below.

B.  REGISTER FOR FIYA TRACK MEET(S)

  • After Creating an Account, Go to www.athletic.net
  • Upper right hand corner, click log in and enter log in information
  • Type "FIYA" into the search bar and you should be able to find the various FIYA Track & Field Meets scheduled for that particular season.
  • Click the meet you wish to register. Please note the registration deadline for the meet as listed on athletic.net.

FIYA TRACK & FIELD GENERAL RULES

TRACK & FIELD FAQ & IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

All information included below + more can be found in our "2020 FIYA Track & Field Order of Track Events and General Rules" Program packet which we advise coaches/athletic directors to download, review, or print with the link to the right of this page.

a)  FIYA utilizes electronic timing at all Track & Field meets.  School teams cannot just show up on the day of the meet and participate.  That is, all teams must pre-register.

b)  Meet Online RegistrationIn order to participate in any of the five meets, school representatives/coaches will need to register their teams online on athletic.net NO LATER THAN 24 hours prior to the date of the meet.  If an athlete is NOT pre registered, he/she CANNOT participate. Coaches are advised to double check their registration / team roster to make sure each athlete is in their appropriate events, gender, AND age divisions.

c)  If a team or athlete shows up to any of the FIYA track meets and has not specifically registered online for any of those meets, he/she will NOT be allowed to participate.

d) Number of Events - At the D1 & D2 level, each athlete may compete in no more than FOUR events; there are no restrictions on what three events. Each school may enter no more than THREE athletes into each event. Any violation will result in a disqualification. At the D3 level, each athlete may compete in as many as FOUR events. Each school may enter unlimited athletes for the 50M, 400M and 800M but no more than SIX athletes per gender into the turbo javelin. At all levels each school may enter a maximum of TWO relay teams per level per relay event but only one counts for team points (in D1 and D2).

e) Waterfall Starts - All running events are run in heats EXCEPT for the following: 800M Run and 1600M Run for all divisions, 400M in Division 3 only. Each of these events will begin with a waterfall start and likely will combine girls and boys in both divisions and separate the times per gender accordingly.

f) Field Events (Shot Put, Long Jump, and Turbo Javelin) will be contested in flights. Athletes who must leave for another event may do so and complete their attempts later only with the prior approval of the event judge. It is advised that athletes report to the field event judge as soon as we make first call of their event, check in for their Division giving their name, school, division, and bib number, and notify the field judge that they will be competing in a track event and will return later to perform their jumps/throws. Contestants who leave a field event without approval from the field judge will be declared finished and not allowed any more attempts. Contestants who do not report to field event by final call will also be disqualified. Because of these rules, please have all of your athletes, coaches, and spectators paying close attention to our field events’ first, second and third calls so we can avoid athlete DQ and the field events run as smooth as possible.

g) Automatic Timing & Live Results (live.athletic.net) - All FIYA meets are conducted with automatic timing.  Results at the meet may be viewed on athletic.live (you may share this link with participants, families, and spectators to see immediate scores and times as they’re posted during the meet). Upon conclusion of the track meet, track coaches -- not spectators or athletes -- may review unofficial results posted on athletic.live and issue a formal written complaint or inquiry by sending an email to johnmueller@onfiya.org by 12 pm noon on the second day after the track meet. Written complaints or inquiries after the deadline will not impact the results of the track meet.

h) Behavior / UniformsNo spikes of any kind or shoes made to take spikes will be allowed.  Any athlete wearing illegal shoes in any competition will be immediately disqualified from the meet. PLEASE NO PACING BY FELLOW ATHLETES OR COACHES. No jewelry of any kind – necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, etc. - may be worn. Please have your athletes prepared for all of these rules ahead of time so there are no delays in the meet program to remove jewelry or spikes. As courtesy to our host venues, we as that you please pick up after yourselves and your spectators in the stands, and obey the rule that there is NO FOOD OR DRINKS ON THE TRACK/FIELD. Only water is allowed.

i)  Fees - there are two fees:  The athlete fee is $12.50 per athlete per meet for nonmember schools and $10 per athlete per meet for member schools.  (If your school has completed a membership fee on our registration page for $100 for the 2017-18 school year for $100 then your school is a member school.)  In addition, our track meets have an adult spectator fee of $5 per adult per meet.  An adult is anyone 18 years of age or over.  For the athletes, by registering them online, we will have a bib number for them.  You only pay for the bib numbers pre-registered.  This means that you cannot add bib numbers on the day of the meet and it means you cannot get refunds for unused bib numbers.

AWARDS & SCORING

  • For each individual FIYA Track & Field Meet, trophies will be given to the Top 3 school teams per meet for Division 1 Boys, Division 1 Girls, Division 2 Boys, Division 2 Girls.
    • For Division 3, there is no team scoring. Ribbons will be distributed in every D-3 event to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers and the rest will receive participant ribbons.
    • For Division 1 and Division 2, Top 6 finishers in each event will score 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 & 1 points for their teams respectively.
      • Remember that an athlete may win their individual heat but not be in the overall Top 6 finishers.
      • Conversely, an athlete could finish in 2nd or below in his/her heat and still be a Top 6 finisher.
    • The Top 4 finishers in each Division 1 and Division 2 event will receive customized ribbons later in the season.
  • For Season Track Champions, trophies and medals will be given to the Division 1 Girls Champion and Division 1 Boys Champion. To qualify, a school must participate in at least 50% of the FIYA track & field meets during a season. Your team must finish in the top 5 team scores at an individual meet and points are awarded as follows:

5th Place - 1 point

4th Place - 2 points

3rd Place - 3 points

2nd Place - 4 points

1st Place - 5 points

  • If there is a tie in team scores with multiple teams for a top five finish, we will add the point totals and divide by the number of tied teams.  By way of example, if two schools tie for 2nd and 3rd place, we add the points (4 + 3) and divide by 2 so each team will be awarded 3.5 points.
  • There is a maximum number of track meets for which a school team can earn points during a track season.  The maximum number is the total number of FIYA track & field meets offered in a season minus one.  In other words, if FIYA offers 5 track meets, a school team can earn points in its four best meets (we drop the lowest score if the school team competed in all 5 meets).
  • If there is a tie in accumulated points upon conclusion of the track season with multiple teams, the tiebreaker will be the team that competes in the MOST FIYA track and field meets in the season wins.  If the tiebreaker does not resolve the champion, there will be co-champions.
